While most visitors to London line up to watch the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace you can actually get a better view of a traditional Changing of the Guard Parade at Windsor. These photos date back to 1998 but the ceremony still takes place many times a week at around 10:45 am.
We found the City Sightseeing tour bus in Windsor useful for a first visit to Windsor.

Beautiful shots Kitty! The one time I managed a visit to the UK I was lucky enough to see the Royal Tattoo at Edinburgh Castle. It blew my mind…a night I will never forget. I wish I had taken the time to visit Winsdor as well.
The history and tradition is so rich there, as evident in your photos. I felt whisked back in time to the days of fairy tales. Thanks for sharing.
If you were to take these pictures again today the soldiers, the bands and the castle will look EXACTLY the same. We really do have a sense of solid historical grounding here in England. I think it’s fair to say it is something we do best.
Speaking of historical grounding, you really should go to see Osborne House on the Isle of Wight if you come over again. The whole place is still as if Queen Victoria has just popped out for a stroll round the garden or maybe is on the lawn taking tea. It is a wonderful place and I think you would love it.
I love the continuity of history & ceremony in the U.K.
I intend to do my best to talk the husband into taking me to both Osborne House on the Isle of Wight and to the Royal Tattoo at Edinburgh Castle. They will not happen on the same trip, unless I make a one way trip (I am still dreaming of a permanent U.K. address).
Those were great – thanks for picking those out for today’s post! I especially loved the colors. So much history there.
