Thunder in “her” chair.

I had so much fun preparing a slide show of my black cat Thunder for today’s “Thoughtful Thursday” post that I am going to share another.

This Wednesday is the Summer Solstice

Summer Solstice 2012

So today, June 20, 2012,  is the longest day of the year and the North Pole is tipped toward the sun more than on any other day, while the South Pole is tipped away from the sun making it the shortest day of the year for the Southern Hemisphere.   Now the longest day of the year is not expected to be the hottest day of summer but the temperature predicted for an afternoon high today is well above my comfort zone.  It is going to be bad enough that I did make the effort of watering my poor little vegetable plants this morning.  Time will tell whether the plants or I wilt the most.  Actually I know the answer.  I am not going to wilt too much because I am going to indulge in spending most of the day in air conditioning.

My cats, Thunder and Lightning are taking today easy too.

Thunder has her head buried so nothing will disrupt her rest.

Lightening is enjoying the corner office chair while ‘her dad’ is not occupying it.

Wacky Wednesday # 15 – National Pet Day

Ah, I think it is obvious that I love my pets.  And the motto of National Pet Day is one I tend to agree with

ADOPT….DON’T SHOP!

National Pet Day was founded by  Celebrity Pet Lifestyle Expert & Animal Welfare Advocate “Colleen Paige” and is sponsored by – Animal Miracle Foundation + Network.

The pets I have had have never been purchased, as in coming from a breeder or pet shop.  I do have friends with purchased pets and I do not criticize them for that choice, or any of you reading this who have done likewise.  But there is something about walking into a shelter with so many caged animals and making the decision to take 1 or 2 of them  home with you that can not matched by a pedigreed pet I believe, that sense that you have saved them from that coped up life.  I also like to think that by loving them each day I help heal the rejection that they must have felt at being ‘turned in” to a shelter and “cast out” from another place.

My husband is closer to the cats in our lives than you can imagine.  Lightening, who has only been with us for about five weeks is already becoming his research supervisor –

although even she sometimes finds the view out the window more interesting than his readings.  What she does like is watching YouTube over his shoulder.  I didn’t manage to snap a photo of that.

Once Again A New Look

I have changed my background and header once again.  This time it is to honor my two new cat companions Thunder and Lightening.  They were pictured on the website of a local humane society.  My husband and I went to meet them on Tuesday.  We ended up bringing them home.  They are adjusting well to being members of our household.  There is a lot of love and affection being passed back & forth between the felines and humans here.
