Lanhydrock, National Trust site in Cornwall

The nearest rail station is a good walk away.  This is a time for splashing out on a taxi so you don’t waste time & energy wondering if you are headed along the correct path.  Sometimes the grounds & gardens are the best part of these grand old estates.

Because most of the house was lost to fire and rebuilt it has an underground maze of Victorian kitchens.Just imagine the cook turning these rabbits into ‘bunny pie.”

The family were “Peers of the Realm

Now, I can not spend the day sight-seeing without finding some grub.  The English National Trust usually has good on site food. Lanhydrock was no exception.

This lovely savory main dish pie for me.

A Jacket Potato Plate with cheese for my husband, along with a local brew.  Ta, dah!

St Ives, Cornwall

St Ives is a classic seaside vacation spot, artist enclave, & tourist destination.
We enjoyed a tasty lunch – sole for my white fish loving husband & a sandwich of hand-picked crab for me – in a typical pub like establishment.

Harvey Nichols in Bristol, England

During our April -May 2010 visit to England we ate at the Second Floor Restaurant of Bristol’s  new Harvey Nichols boutique store twice.

The decor is … retro???

The food was excellent.

The address for Harvey Nichols’ is Philadelphia Street,  Quakers Friars, Cabot Circus, Bristol BS1 3BZ    Tel: 0117 916 8898

Dorchester, England

OK, it is now July and I have yet to post much from my late April – early May trip to England.  We went to Dorchester because my husband wanted to visit Thomas Hardy’s home.   You are met with a sign saying no photos when you walk onto the grounds of the Hardy property, so I have nothing to share from that.  The photo above does prove that my husband & I were not the only tourists in town the day of our visit.

Dorchester is Hardy’s fictional Casterbridge.

We travel to most locations by rail.  I tend to take a snap shot of the station sign where ever we stop (and stations in between.)  It helps me remember where I’ve been.

Most train stations have some flowers around to help brighten thing up a little.

Concord Colonial Inn Concord, MA

A nice room for an anniversary get-a-way

In additional to a comfortable bed & bath the Inn served excellent food in their main dinning room.

I enjoyed this plate of lightly bread veal cutlet & fresh veggies.

My dessert choice was carrot cake while my husband enjoyed strawberry cheesecake.

Our room also included breakfast in the morning.  I opted for eggs with corn beef hash and wheat toast. The menu also offered buttermilk pancakes or waffles.
